• Throughout the school, from 3-year-old Pre-Kindergarten through high school, The Academy's academic curriculum maintains an international standard of education.
  • The Academy is accredited for Primary through High School by the University of Cambridge International Examinations Department, England.
  • The Academy has been awarded official status by the Core Knowledge Foundation for Pre-K through 8th grade.
  • Quality of content, informational literacy, conceptual development and critical thinking are stressed in all subjects.
  • Each year builds on the knowledge learned from the previous years.

Mathematics

Students build on a firm mathematical foundation, meeting international standards, and learn to understand important mathematical concepts and their application. Students are challenged to develop their logical reasoning and problem-solving skills and make hands-on mathematical discoveries.

English Language and Literature

Students acquire a strong foundation in the fundamental skills of reading, writing and communication. In turn, literacy enables each student to express ideas, think logically and creatively, participate meaningfully in all forms of communication, and evaluate information. These skills are underlined by the students'exposure to works of great literature, both classical and contemporary.

Science

Students develop fundamental and conceptual understandings in earth/space, biological, chemical, physical and environmental sciences. Science facts, concepts, principles, theories and models are taught using visual, auditory and hands-on methods and stressing the development of critical analysis when collecting and interpreting data.

Computer Science

Computer Science teaches students how to actually understand and use computers and software tools.  The students learn computer basics and ethics; effective keyboarding; word processing of their own compositions; importing and designing of graphics and multimedia presentations; developing of spreadsheets and graphing results; organizing of information in databases; and research using internet and electronic resources.

World Languages

Multilingual abilities and multicultural awareness prepare students for successful functioning in a global society. Research has demonstrated the importance of beginning second language study in the primary years, when it is acquired most easily. Spanish, Japanese and French are taught with age-appropriate activities - understanding, listening, speaking, reading and writing - including the use of video and print materials.

Latin is also taught as a tool to stress the fundamentals of language structure and to build vocabulary.

Social Studies

Through the study of world and U.S. history and geography, as well as economics, students gain an understanding of complex social, economic, cultural and intellectual trends, and develop an appreciation for world societies.

Ethics

Ethical education teaches students about relationships with each other, with other species and with the environment, promoting skills in conflict resolution and critical thinking, and inspiring compassion and respect.

The Arts

Through the study and hands-on creation of visual arts, music and drama, students  acquire knowledge and skills that increase aesthetic awareness, refine perceptual and technical skills, and strengthen the ability to be creative and critical thinkers.  Students identify historical, social and cultural aspects which have influenced artistic trends and, through the study of art and artists, acquire aesthetic, evaluative, and artistic awareness with respect to form, function and structure.

The Theatre Arts program provides students with experiences in communication and performance which will help to develop confidence, poise, and enhance self-esteem.  The objectives are to provide guidance, instruction and experience within an environment conducive to developing student interest and critical thinking and to teach students how to work cooperatively and participate in group presentations.  Skills learned include basic acting, public speaking, character development, puppetry, ensemble acting, directing, improvisation, creative writing, practical experiences in theatre and media, and video, radio, print and stage crafting.

Physical education

A comprehensive seasonally-appropriate physical education curriculum is provided for the students.
