DIRECTOR OF THE PRE-K PROGRAM:

The Academy Pre-Kindergarten class runs Monday through Friday, 8.30 a.m. to noon.  It is for children 3 to 4 years of age.  Class size is a maximum of 10 students.

The curriculum is based on Core Knowledge and includes:

Language Development

  • Emerging literacy skills in reading and writing

  • Oral language

  • Nursery rhymes, poems, finger plays and songs

  • Storybook reading and storytelling

Knowledge Acquisition and Cognitive Development

  • Mathematical reasoning and number sense

  • Orientation in time

  • Orientation in space

  • Scientific reasoning and the physical world

  • Music

  • Art

Physical Well-Being and Motor Development

  • Movement and coordination

Social and Emotional Development

  • Autonomy and social skills

Approaches to Learning

  • Work Habits

In addition to Core Knowledge the Pre-K curriculum includes:

  • Spanish

  • Drama

  • Dance and Movement

  • International Culture

  • Field trips to reinforce drama, art, science and social studies
